A full range of values.





An example of modeling form with value (light and dark) (see textbook, pp. 91 & 92).  Also a composition that effectively contrasts RECTILINEAR/GEOMETRIC shape (the block next to the figure) and CURVILINEAR/ORGANIC shape (the figure).




High-contrast, dramatic value scheme. Visually, this is very bold.





Low-contrast, quiet value scheme.




Here value is a major compositional element, drawing and directing our eye through the image. We can also identify a "light-dark rhythm" in the back-and-forth play between strong lights and strong darks.
